  The name, Mizar, came from two of the handle stars in the "Big Dipper," the constellation Ursa Major, one Mizar: "The Bear:" the other Alcor: "The Rider." Mizar, the double star, itself has the distinction of being the first double star to be discovered telescopically, Mizar has been used as a traditional test for eyesight . Not only are the stars in the Big Dipper easily found themselves, they may also be used as guides to yet other stars. The founder is a longtime sailor and celestial navigator, so a better name for a technology driven company could not be found.
